Los Angeles, Sept. 1 -- The planned biopic on pop star Britney Spears is still in development, with screenwriter Elizabeth "Liz" Meriwether confirming that the project is in its early stages and saying she believes now is the right time to revisit the singer's life and career, according to People.

Meriwether, creator of 'New Girl' and writer of the upcoming film, told Vanity Fair that she is still beginning work on the screenplay based on Spears' memoir 'The Woman in Me'.

"I'm really at the beginning of the process of thinking about it," Meriwether, 44, said in an interview published on Monday.
