New Delhi, Aug. 27 -- The Supreme Court has sought the response of the Delhi Police on a plea by Athar Khan, an accused in the 2020 North-East Delhi riots conspiracy case, challenging the Delhi High Court's refusal to grant him bail.

A bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and Vipul M Pancholi issued notice to the police on August 19 while hearing Khan's appeal against the High Court's July 7 order.

According to the prosecution, Khan was involved in managing the protest site at Chand Bagh and played a role in the alleged conspiracy that preceded the violence.

Khan's bail application was earlier rejected by the trial court on January 29, prompting him to move the Delhi High Court.
