Washington DC, March 20 -- US President Donald Trump on Friday said the United States has dealt a major blow to Iran in the ongoing conflict, claiming Iranian naval forces had been largely destroyed.

Speaking during the Commander in Chief Trophy presentation in Washington at White House, Trump said the US military had many Iranian ships in recent operations.

"I want to begin by just saying we're doing extremely well in Iran," Trump said.

"The difference between them and us is they had a navy two weeks ago, they have no navy anymore. It's all at the bottom of the sea. Fifty-eight ships knocked down in two days," he added.

Trump praised the strength of the US Navy.
