'Punishment, not prevention': P Chidambaram targets Centre over anti-paper leak bill
New Delhi, Aug. 1 -- Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P. Chidambaram on Saturday criticised the Central government over the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, asserting that describing the legislation as a law to "prevent" unfair means is a misnomer, as it merely acts to "punish" offenders after the crime is committed.
Taking to X, Chidambaram pointed out that Parliament recently passed the Bill to enhance punishments for offences under the law and set up Fast Track Courts.
