Kolkata, June 13 -- Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday expressed grief over the demise of legendary Indian shooter and coach Jaspal Rana, calling it a great loss to Indian sport and extending condolences to his family and supporters.

Taking to X, Banerjee said she was deeply saddened by the passing of the great Indian shooter, who also played a key role in mentoring Double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker.

"Deeply saddened by the demise of legendary shooting champion and coach Jaspal Rana. An Asian Games gold medalist, he mentored Manu Bhaker to Olympic glory. His passing away is a great loss to Indian sport. My heartfelt condolences to his family, fraternity and supporters," she wrote.
