New Delhi, Sept. 23 -- BJP MP Sambit Patra on Wednesday said that the Northeast region has witnessed a significant transformation since 2014, highlighting the government's focus on development, cultural recognition and addressing key issues concerning the region.

Speaking at a press conference, Patra said that before 2014, the abbreviation "NE" was interpreted as "Non-Existent", but under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, it has taken on a new meaning as the "New Engine of Growth" for India.

"Before the 2014 government, NE meant 'Non-Existent', but since PM Modi came, the term changed. It means the 'New Engine of Growth' of India. From no existence to a new engine, this is a huge change for the northeastern states," he said.
