Bandung, May 15 -- Indonesia's Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway service, Whoosh, sold around 53,000 tickets for trips during the May 13-17 long holiday period linked to Ascension Day and the weekend, operator KCIC said on Friday.

"Passenger numbers are expected to keep rising until the holiday ends. People are advised to buy tickets online before arriving at the station," KCIC Corporate Secretary Eva Chairunisa said in Bandung, West Java.

She said a surge in travelers became apparent on May 13, when occupancy rates for afternoon and evening departures reached 95 percent.

"Most passengers are residents using the long holiday to travel from Jakarta to Bandung and nearby areas for vacations," she said.
