Jakarta, Sept. 17 -- Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming called for stronger protection of Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia, as the two neighboring countries work to renew a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on labor placement.

Vice President Gibran had a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the Vice Presidential Palace here on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters following the bilateral meeting, Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Mukhtarudin said the Indonesian delegation raised the MoU renewal, which covers the placement and protection of workers in both the formal and informal sectors.
