Depok, West Java, July 24 -- Students from the University of Indonesia (UI) finished sixth overall at the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) Seismic Design Competition 2026 in Portland, Oregon, held from July 13-17, marking the best performance by an Indonesian team.

Among 47 teams from leading universities worldwide, UI was the only representative from Indonesia and Southeast Asia to advance to the competition's final round.

Team supervisor Josia Irwan Rastandi said on Friday that the group's interdisciplinary approach produced a building design that combined structural resilience, functionality and environmental sustainability.
