Rinjani reopens climbing activities on limited basis
Indonesia, Sept. 1 -- Climbing activities in Indonesia's Mount Rinjani National Park will resume on a limited basis from Sept. 1, 2026, with tighter controls to reduce forest-fire risks during the dry season.
The Mount Rinjani National Park Office in West Nusa Tenggara confirmed the policy on Tuesday, following a directive from the Forestry Ministry.
The reopening follows Circular Letter No. SE.4/KSDAE/SKSDAE/KSA.02.02/08/2026 on temporarily closing and limiting mountain-climbing tourism to prevent forest fires.
The limited reopening covers climbing, rituals, religious activities, cultural events, social activities and research, the park office said.
