RI's Air Force plans radar expansion to strengthen airspace monitoring
Jakarta, April 9 -- The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) will expand its radar coverage with plans to consolidate 30 radar units nationwide by 2029, Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Tonny Harjono announced.
"God willing, by 2029 we will have installed all units according to plan, bringing the total to 30," Harjono said at a press conference at Air Force Headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday.
Currently, TNI AU operates 20 radar units across the country, though several require replacement due to aging infrastructure. The units fall under the Air Force Operation Command (Koopsau).
"We will acquire 25 new radar installations, some of which will replace the existing 20 units that remain in operation despite their age," Harjono explained.
