Jakarta, May 27 -- Indonesia's Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized the significance of adherence to international law and the principles of multilateralism in resolving the Palestinian issue.

At the UN Security Council High-Level Open Debate in New York on Tuesday (May 26), Sugiono explained that the current global challenges persist not because the UN Charter has lost its relevance, but because international principles are too often applied selectively.

"Indonesia views the situation in Palestine, particularly in Gaza, as a clear reflection of the international community's failure to uphold these principles fairly and consistently," he was quoted as saying in a statement released by the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Wednesday.
