Responders fight spreading wildfire in Indonesia's Way Kambas Park
Lampung, Aug. 22 -- Emergency response teams are battling a forest fire that has burned roughly 673 hectares of land in Way Kambas National Park in Lampung province as of Saturday afternoon, officials confirmed.
"The fire is still raging and spreading from its initial point in the Jati 3 area toward the Mbah Sapon Swamp," said East Lampung Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Yuliansyah.
High winds and difficult terrain are hindering containment efforts.
Because the fire site is inaccessible to motorized vehicles, joint crews are relying on manual fire-fighting methods and portable equipment.
