Semarang, Aug. 19 -- A joint search and rescue team recovered the body of a 16-year-old Indonesian hiker on Wednesday after he fell into the crater of Mount Slamet in Central Java while taking a selfie.

Budiono, head of the Semarang Search and Rescue (SAR) Office, said rescuers retrieved the body of M. Fahri Maulana, a teenager from Brebes Regency, in an overnight operation that concluded early Wednesday morning.

The fatal incident occurred Tuesday morning while Maulana was taking photos on the crater rim.

He had scaled Central Java's highest peak on Monday with two companions.
