Jakarta, March 17 -- The Ministry of Environment has urged regional governments to anticipate a potential increase in waste generation during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday season.

Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated during a visit to the Kampung Rambutan Terminal in Jakarta on Tuesday that the Ministry of Transportation projected that approximately 143.9 million people would participate in the Eid homecoming this year.

"There are about 143 million people moving from major cities to regions. This means we can estimate the total waste by multiplying that figure by 0.5 kilograms per day," he said.
