Jakarta, Sept. 8 -- Speaker of Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani urged authorities to investigate land that was burned in forest and land fires before being planted with oil palms.

She said such practices should not occur and must be investigated promptly, noting that President Prabowo Subianto had also raised concerns about the issue.

"We will ask relevant authorities to investigate land affected by fires that was subsequently converted for other uses," Puan said after a plenary session in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The House already has a team specifically tasked with overseeing the government's response to forest fires and other disasters, she said.
