Jakarta, April 9 -- President Prabowo Subianto has expressed hope that Indonesia will begin mass production of electric sedans by 2028, as the government intensifies efforts to build a domestic electric vehicle industry.

"We do have a plan. I hope that by 2028 we will begin large-scale production of electric sedans," Prabowo said in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday.

The president conveyed this expectation as part of the government's push to strengthen Indonesia's electric-based automotive manufacturing capacity.

He noted that the country already has the capability to produce electric commercial vehicles such as buses and trucks, which he described as a key foundation for developing a broader electric vehicle ecosystem.
