Jakarta, Aug. 14 -- President Prabowo Subianto said on Friday that the government had raised the pay of the most junior judges by 280 percent, putting their earnings above the ASEAN average.

"Junior judges' earnings have risen 280 percent, the highest increase in decades. Their earnings are now above the ASEAN average," Prabowo said.

He made the remarks during his State of the Nation Address at the 2026 Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) in Jakarta.

The pay increases were part of efforts to improve judges' welfare while safeguarding the independence of the judiciary, he said.
