Jakarta, April 28 -- President Prabowo Subianto pledged full medical care and compensation for victims of the Bekasi train collision, as authorities respond to one of Indonesia's deadliest rail accidents in recent years.
"All victims are being treated well," he said after visiting the injured at dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid Regional Public Hospital in Bekasi, West Java, on Tuesday.
The crash occurred Monday evening when a long-distance train collided with a commuter train at Bekasi Timur Station, leaving 14 dead and 84 injured as of 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to KAI.
Prabowo said medical teams are handling the victims, with many already cleared to return home.
