Jakarta, Sept. 16 -- President Prabowo Subianto has called for Jakarta to become a green city by expanding public open spaces, creating urban parks and installing vertical gardens on high-rise buildings.

"If possible, let's start with Jakarta; Jakarta must become the green city, the garden city," Prabowo said during the inauguration of the Jakarta Light Rail Transit (LRT) Kelapa Gading-Manggarai route on Wednesday.

The President outlined the initiative as the central government prepares to officially launch the Indonesia Asri movement.

The program aims to create environments that are safe, healthy, clean and beautiful, reflected in the acronym ASRI-Aman (Safe), Sehat (Healthy), Resik (Clean) and Indah (Beautiful).
