Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto has asked universities to develop technologies and find alternatives in reducing the reliance on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) amid rising import dependence and global price pressures.

Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto on Monday said the instruction was delivered during a cabinet brief led by President Subianto at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta.

"Several alternatives to reduce LPG are being explored, but as in educational level, we are supporting the minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) on the technology side," Yuliarto said after the meeting.
