Jakarta, June 15 -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto personally welcomed German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, marking efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Steinmeier arrived at the palace complex at around 11:30 a.m. local time in a motorcade escorted by 17 motorcycle guards and 80 cavalry troops.

After stepping out of his vehicle, the German leader was welcomed by Prabowo. The two presidents shook hands and exchanged greetings before watching a traditional dance performance.

They then proceeded into the palace, where the national anthems of Indonesia and Germany were played.
