Makassar,S Sulawesi, March 16 -- Police in Indonesia's Selayar Islands have secured 25.44 kilograms of suspected cocaine discovered by fishermen and residents at several coastal locations, prompting a wider investigation into suspected maritime drug trafficking routes.
Selayar Police Chief Didid Imawan said officers had secured the evidence and conducted initial questioning of witnesses who discovered the packages along the shoreline in the district.
"The evidence has been secured and will be processed according to procedures for further examination," Imawan said in a written statement received in Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi Province, on Sunday.
