North Sumatra mobilizes response as floods affect 200 households
Medan, July 18 -- The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of North Sumatra swiftly launched emergency measures in response to flooding that affected 200 households in Central Tapanuli District.
Speaking in Medan on Saturday, BPBD Emergency Response Division Head Sri Wahyuni noted that torrential rain caused an emergency embankment along the Aek Siaga Laga River to collapse on Friday (July 17).
She emphasized that the Central Tapanuli district government evacuated residents in Sipange, Tukka Sub-district, in coordination with the North Sumatra BPBD.
The official further noted that the disaster caused neither fatalities nor injuries, adding that the river's water level had since returned to normal.
