Indonesia, July 21 -- The Ministry of Forestry is conducting a Weather Modification Operation (OMC) in South Sumatra from July 19 to 30, 2026, as part of efforts to induce rainfall in support of mitigating forest and land fires.

Head of the Forest Fire Control Center for the Sumatra Region of the Ministry of Forestry, Ferdian Krisnanto, on Tuesday said the operation is targeting areas affected by ongoing forest and land fires, as well as fire-prone locations, to help suppress the blazes through induced rainfall.
