Jakarta, Sept. 29 -- Indonesian Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait emphasized the government's commitment to accelerating the renovation of uninhabitable homes in Jakarta next year through its home improvement program.

"Next year, we will work on dilapidated and uninhabitable homes in Jakarta. We will increase our pace, working hard to make Jakarta residents happy. Our sole objective is to help residents with uninhabitable homes," he said.

According to a statement cited here on Tuesday, Sirait said the ministry is promoting an open-store selection scheme, dubbed a "people's tender," as part of the program to improve transparency and efficiency in the procurement of construction materials.
