Minister urges focus on children's well-being over grades
Jakarta, July 13 -- Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno urged parents and teachers to prioritize children's physical and mental well-being, saying academic achievement alone is insufficient for healthy development.
"You may score 10 in mathematics, but if you are not physically and mentally healthy, what does it mean?" Pratikno said on Monday.
He made the remarks during the National Movement for Safe and Comfortable Spaces for Children, held to support the Friendly School Orientation Period and attended online.
Pratikno said academic achievement must be supported by physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being.
