Jakarta, July 30 -- Environment Minister Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat has urged industrial estate operators to adopt greener industrial estate concepts by expanding tree planting and strengthening environmental protection as part of efforts to promote sustainable industrial growth.

Addressing members of the Industrial Estate Association (HKI) in Jakarta on Thursday, Jumhur said industrial estates should not be synonymous with barren landscapes.

According to the minister, industrial development can go hand in hand with efforts to preserve environmental quality.

"Whenever I visit an industrial estate, I often wonder why it looks so barren. In fact, industrial estates can be lush and beautiful while still accommodating factories," he said.
