Jakarta, Sept. 15 -- Housing and Settlement Area Minister Maruarar Sirait affirmed that addressing slum areas must be carried out in an integrated and comprehensive manner.

He said the success of slum area handling cannot be measured solely by changes in the physical condition of buildings. Improving residents' quality of life is also an important aspect that needs attention, including through strengthening the local economy.

"We are also improving the economy. We invited ladies bankers and PNM (state-run microfinance company) to provide mentoring for MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises) in Menteng Tenggulun," Sirait said in a statement here on Tuesday.
