Jakarta, May 1 -- President Prabowo Subianto announced a series of policies and directives to improve the welfare of Indonesian workers during the 2026 International Workers' Day event at the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta on Friday.

Prabowo said he has signed Presidential Regulation No. 25 of 2026 to ratify the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention 188, aimed at ensuring the protection and welfare of fishers.

"For the first time in the history of the Republic of Indonesia, fishermen are being cared for, all of them. With 6 million fishermen, our work to improve their welfare will also benefit their wives and children, totaling 20 million of the Indonesian population," the president said.
