Jakarta, May 2 -- The Greater Jakarta Police has carried out early preventive measures against a number of rioter groups attempting to infiltrate labor demonstrations at the National Monument (Monas) and in front of the parliament complex.
"To uphold democracy and ensure the right to express opinions in public in accordance with the laws, we continue to make efforts preemptively, preventively, and repressively," said Director of General Criminal Investigation, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, at a press conference here on Friday.
Imanuddin explained that the police also managed to secure items that were to be used to incite unrest during the May Day activities, especially those found in front of the parliament building.
