Jakarta, April 27 -- The action of turning off the lights in Jakarta, conducted on Saturday (April 25) from 08.30 to 09.30 PM local time to commemorate Earth Day, reduced carbon emissions by 77.53 tons of CO2e.
Lights were switched off along major and arterial roads in Jakarta, including at landmarks such as the National Monument, the Arjuna Wiwaha Statue, the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, the Youth Statue, the General Soedirman Statue, and Jakarta City Hall.
"The activity resulted in electricity cost savings of Rp140,226,312 and a reduction in carbon emissions of 77.53 tons of CO2e," said Dudi Gardesi, Head of the Jakarta Environmental Agency, in Jakarta on Monday.
