Jakarta, March 22 -- The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has responded to flooding affecting 46 neighborhood units (RT) in East Jakarta following heavy rain and river overflows.

"The flooding was triggered by high-intensity rain and overflows of the Cipinang, Cilangkap, and Sunter rivers," BPBD Head Isnawa Adji said in Jakarta on Sunday.

He said the 46 RTs, spread across nine urban villages, remained inundated as of 10 a.m. local time, with floodwaters reaching up to 80 centimeters.

BPBD has deployed personnel to monitor affected areas and coordinated with the water resources, highway, and fire and rescue agencies to help floodwaters recede.
