Jakarta, March 8 -- The Jakarta Provincial Government has deployed 1,200 flood control pumps as part of a rapid response to handle inundation and flooding following heavy rainfall on Saturday night.

"I have been coordinating with my staff since last night, especially with the Water Resources Agency. In fact, pumping operations have been underway at several locations since then," Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said in a statement on Sunday.

He explained that the 1,200 pumps comprise 668 stationary pumps across 243 locations and 536 mobile pumps stationed in various flood-prone areas.

"Water suctioning is ongoing, including on Daan Mogot Road in West Jakarta and several other major roads," he added.
