Jakarta, March 8 -- A senior Indonesian lawmaker said the military's decision to raise its alert status to "Siaga 1" or "Alert 1" reflects strong commitment to safeguarding national security amid rising global tensions, particularly in the Middle East.

Dave Laksono, deputy chairman of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR), said the measure demonstrates the Indonesian military's readiness to respond to evolving international dynamics and ensure domestic stability.

"The DPR's Commission I sees this policy as part of a strategy to strengthen national resilience," Laksono said in a statement on Sunday.
