Jakarta, Feb. 23 -- Home Affairs Ministry Secretary General Tomsi Tohir has urged Regional Inflation Control Teams (TPIDs) to conduct field inspections to safeguard the price stability of basic commodities in markets.
He made the call during a regional inflation coordination meeting in Jakarta on Monday, following price increases in several regions during the first week of Ramadan.
Commodities affected include bird's-eye chilies, garlic, and beef.
Tohir said monitoring at the farmer level shows stocks and prices remain relatively stable. However, prices at the distributor level have risen, exceeding the maximum retail price (MRP).
