Jakarta, Sept. 25 -- Deputy Minister of Human Rights Mugiyanto stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between United Nations (UN) human rights mechanisms and regional organizations to improve the effectiveness of human rights promotion and protection globally.

Mugiyanto made the statement during Indonesia's intervention on General Debate Item 5: Human Rights Bodies and Mechanisms, at the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Thursday, Sept. 24.

In a statement on Friday, Mugiyanto said international human rights mechanisms cannot work alone amid UN financial constraints.
