Indonesia plans to invest about Rp1,200 trillion to expand and revive its railway network through 2045, targeting around 14,000 kilometers of new and reactivated railway lines, a senior minister said on Wednesday.

Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono said the estimate covers long-term rail development outside Java, including Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi.

"We estimate that if we want to add around 14,000 km in the coming years, the cost is about Rp1,200 trillion until 2045," Yudhoyono said after a coordination meeting in Jakarta.
