Jakarta, July 22 -- The Indonesian government is currently finalizing the establishment of a special authority for personal data protection, which will work independently.

In a statement confirmed on Wednesday, Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria noted that the body is will operate independently of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs.

"This personal data protection agency will operate independently across all its structures, but all of its reports will be submitted to the president through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs," he said.
