Jakarta, March 27 -- Indonesia's health authorities will conduct an epidemiological investigation on Friday following the death of a doctor in Cianjur, West Java, from suspected measles.
Health Ministry spokesperson Aji Muhawarman said on Friday that the 26-year-old man reportedly experienced clinical symptoms including fever, a red rash, and severe shortness of breath.
"Based on preliminary findings, he had measles with pneumonia complications that worsened his condition," Aji said.
He expressed condolences over the death, noting that measles can affect not only children but also adults.
Unvaccinated adults or those who have never contracted measles remain at high risk of severe complications, Aji added.
