Jakarta, April 9 -- Indonesia plans to reshape its motorcycle industry by directing domestic production and sales toward electric motorcycles, while conventional fuel-based models will be targeted for export markets, an official said.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said Thursday in Jakarta that the government is preparing regulations to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles, particularly motorcycles.
"The government is preparing regulations that will require manufacturers to ensure sufficient production of electric motorcycles for the domestic market. We want all motorcycles sold locally to be electric," he explained.
