Jakarta, May 9 -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said his government is targeting the completion of 1,386 Red and White Fishing Villages across the country by December 2026.

Speaking during a working visit to Miangas, Talaud Islands, North Sulawesi, on Saturday, the president said the program aims to improve fishermen's welfare.

"By December 2026, we will inaugurate 1,386 fishing villages across Indonesia. Hopefully, a fishing village can soon be built here in Miangas," he said.

Prabowo emphasized that the fisheries sector has become one of the government's priorities this year.

"We will improve the living conditions of fishermen across Indonesia on a large scale starting this year," he said.
