Indonesia stresses humane fertility care to support TFR
Jakarta, May 28 -- An Indonesian health official said humane and advanced fertility care is needed to help maintain the country's fertility rate and support future economic growth.
The total fertility rate (TFR) stood at 2.14 children per woman in 2023 based on National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) data, Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono noted on Thursday.
He said 10-15 percent of couples of reproductive age experience infertility, meaning around 4-6 million of Indonesia's 39.8 million couples require medical intervention to conceive.
According to 2025 World Health Organization (WHO) data, around 17.5 percent of adults globally, or one in six people, experience infertility.
