Jakarta, Sept. 8 -- Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) has approved a bill to amend the country's 2002 Broadcasting Law, paving the way for further discussions with the government.

Deputy House Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad led the approval at a plenary session in Jakarta on Tuesday after eight political party factions submitted their written views.

"Does the honorable House approve the bill proposed by Commission I as a House initiative?" Dasco asked, prompting legislators to approve it.

One proposed change would increase the number of commissioners on the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) from nine to 11.
