Indonesia's lawmaker calls for technology transfer with carrier
Jakarta, Aug. 28 -- Indonesia should secure technology transfers alongside the planned handover of Italy's ITS Giuseppe Garibaldi aircraft carrier, to help its navy and domestic ship engineers learn to operate and maintain the vessel, a lawmaker said.
Utut Adianto, chairman of the House of Representatives' (DPR RI's) Commission I, said Indonesia needed to study carrier operations because the ship would become the country's first aircraft carrier.
"Our sailors and engineers should learn directly so they become more skilled," Utut said at parliament in Jakarta on Thursday.
He said Commission I had processed the carrier's handover last month, noting that parliament must approve major defense equipment acquisitions.
