Bogor, W Java, Aug. 14 -- Three days before Indonesia celebrates 81 years of independence, lawmakers gathered on Friday with a familiar question: what should freedom deliver when geopolitical tensions are reshaping the world around them?

At the annual sessions of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), and the House of Representatives and Regional Representatives Council (DPR/DPD), lawmakers offered President Prabowo Subianto hopes for prosperity.
