Jakarta, July 14 -- As Jakarta's relentless pace continues, checking the Air Quality Index (AQI) on smartphones and public information displays has become increasingly routine, reflecting how environmental concerns have moved to the center of Indonesia's national development agenda.

Behind those constantly changing numbers lies a broader transformation. Environmental issues are no longer treated solely as matters of conservation but have emerged as one of the country's main pillars of development.

Through its Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (Enhanced NDC), Indonesia has pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 31.89 percent using its own resources and by up to 43.2 percent with international support by 2030.
