Jakarta, Aug. 12 -- Indonesia's Air Force is considering sections of East Java toll roads as alternative runways for military aircraft if conventional airbases become unusable during emergencies, a spokesman said Tuesday.

Air Force spokesman First Marshal I Nyoman Suadnyana said several sections are under review, including the Probolinggo-Banyuwangi toll road.

"It is part of the plan, but as of now, it remains under review," Suadnyana said.

He said using toll roads as alternative runways would help ensure military operations can continue during crises that render conventional airbases inoperable.
