Indonesia records 17.89 percent energy mix, exceeding target
Jakarta, June 4 -- Indonesia has recorded a major milestone with new and renewable energy (NRE) hitting 17.89 percent of the country's electricity mix as of April 2026, surpassing the government's target of 16.46 percent.
"The NRE mix has increased beyond the target," Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry's acting director general of electricity Tri Winarno stated during a meeting with House Commission XII in Jakarta, Thursday.
Winarno told lawmakers, calling the development an encouraging indicator of the country's ongoing energy transition.
However, he cautioned that fossil fuels still hold a firm grip on the grid.
