Jakarta, May 20 -- Indonesia is accelerating development of a domestic electric bus industry through higher local-content requirements and wider adoption of battery-powered public transportation, an Industry Ministry official said Wednesday.

Mahardi Tunggul Wicaksono said Indonesia's automotive industry was prepared to support battery electric vehicle production, including electric buses and trucks.

"Indonesia currently has nine domestic manufacturers producing electric buses and trucks. We are capable of meeting logistics and special-purpose vehicle demand," Wicaksono said at the INAPA 2026 and Busworld Southeast Asia 2026 exhibitions in Jakarta.
